THE RED ARMY
EXTENSIVE DEMOBILISATION PROCEEDING
MOTIVES FOR REDUCTION By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Rec. October 20, 7.20 p.m.) Helsingfors, October 19. Extensive demobilisation of the Red Army is proceeding. A complete reorganisation and reduction of the standing Army to a peace footing of 430,000 has been decided on. Bolshevik figures show that the Red Army in January last numbered four millions. On August 1 last it had been reduced to 1,700,00i\ The official motives for the reduction are an assurance of peace with Poland and the impossibility of feeding masses of unproductive soldiers.—Aus.-N.Z.
