BY RUSSIAN GUNBOAT IN JAPANESE PORT ' ’ By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Tokio, October 10. Tho Russian gunboat Batavia stopped the British, steamer Gladys Docllcr off Muroran, Japan, from which port the steamer was departing, demanding the surrender of 700 tons of provisions aboard consigned to- tho Chita forces at Kamchatka. The Gladys Doeller fled to Muroran Harbour, and the gunboat followed and fired at her, but did not hit her. Tho Japanese despatched l two gunboats to hold the Russians and investigate the affair. The British Consul at Hakodate has reported tho matter to the Embassy at Tokio, who is investigating the affair. —Reuter.
