Kanna (3.5 p.m.); for Lyttelton. NEW ABERDEEN LINERS. Cabled advice, has been received by Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, to the effect that the Sophocles,” the first of the two new steamers of the Aberdeen Line, has been launched at Belfast. Tho Sophocles is a turbine vessel of 12.500 tons, with accommodation for about. 120 firstclass and 400 third-class passengers. She is expected to bo dispatched from England about March 2 on her first voyage to Australia, and is at present advertised to sail from Sydney Homewards about May 10. Tho Diogenes, a sister-ship, which is' still under construction at Belfast., will bo launched at an early date. Both vessels are being turned out at the famous shipbuilding yards of Messrs. WAIMANA’S VOYAGE. The S S. and A. liner Wainiana, which arrived on Sunday afternoon Irom London and Southampton, berthed nta.tout 8 o'clock yesterday morning at Glasgow Wharf. She left Southampton on September 1, and throughout the voyage across tho Atlantic to Panama experienced fine weather. She cleared the Canal on September 16, and called, later at Pitcairn Island. The trip across the Pacific was made in fine weather. The Waimana has no cargo. but. brought 975 third-class passengers, 69/ ol whom are adults. , Captain A. J. Cliarman is m command, and has the following officers with him: Chief, Mr. J. Cameron: second, Mr. G. West; third. Mr. J. W. Hart; fourth, Mr. V. 11. iiowling: purser, Mr A. Charman; surgeon, Dr. If. Gibson; lunior surgeon. Dr. W. Baxter; chief engineer. Mr. T. ft. Hunter; second. Mr. E. C-. Adame; third, Mr. H. G. Evans: fourth, Mr. A. Bynesi fifth, Mr. S. Carter: sixth, Mr. R. O'Grady; chief steward, Mr. T. Bradford. The to sail on Sunday for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland, and should sail from the latter port for London about October 30. WAIHEMO AT AUCKLAND. The Union Company's steamer Walhemo arrived at Auckland at 4.15 a.m. on Saturday from Los Angeles, with 8700 tons of general cargo from the Pacific Coast ports of America. She berthed at 9 a.m. to discharge the Auckland portion of 1530 tons, consisting of newsprint, case oil. lumber, and general. Before making her departure from Auckland the Walhemo will take coal into her bunkers., and is expected to sail on Wednesday for Napier and Wellington. The Waihemo cleared Los Angeles on September 16, and made the voyage in 22 days 8 hours. Moderate trade winds and fine weather were met with until the last two days, when the wind freshened and rain fell. She is due hero about Saturday, and will proceed to Timaru, Dunedin, and Australia after putting out the Wellington portion of her cargo. CANADIAN GOVERNMENT BOATS. The Canadian Mariner is to sail on Thursday for Lyttelton. It is uot expected that the Canadian Conqueror will sail for Auckland until Thursday. The Canadian Spinner is expected to leave Auckland to-day, and Is due on Thursday. She will sail for Lyttelton next Monday. THE CORINTHIO. The S.S. and A. liner Corinthic is to leave Port Chalmers to-day for Bluff and Wellington. -She is due here on October 18. and is to sail on October 23 at daybreak for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. SAILINGS FROM NEW YORK. The Sydney agent for the U.S. and A. Line haa been advised that the steamer Eastern Moon is to leave New York on October 29 for Wellington. Lyttelton, Blnfi. Tho Union Company’s turbine steamer Wahine, which has just completed an extensive overhaul at Port Chalmers, and has re-entered the ferry- service between Lyttelton and Wellington. Captain W. The C. and D. liner Port Lyttelton is io leave New Plymouth to-night for Wanganui and Lyttelton to continue loading. She is due here on October 18 to complete loading', and should sail for London on October 22. ftIVERINA FROM SYDNEY. The Huddart-Parker steamer Riverina is due from. fc'vrlnev about noon to-morrow. She is to sail on the return trip on Fridays KAITUNA FOR WELLINGTON. The Kaituna will load at Adelaide and Editliburg this week for Hobart and Wellington. THE EAST COAST SERVICE. The Kanna. is duo. to-morrow from Dunedin. Timaru, and Lyttelton, and will sail to-morrow for Auckland. The Katoa is duo about Sunday Irom Auckland, and will sail on Monday for Lyttelton and Dunedin.

Union Company’s steamer Kaiapoi arrived at Auckland yesterday from Adetaide, and will later proceed to \V hangarei and thence here. Tho Korsnui is to sail to-day for Lyttelton. Dunedin, Bluff, Oamaru, and Tho Kakapo should sail for Greymouth on Thursday to load for Wellington. The City of Sydney is duo op Wednesday from Auckland, and wil- sail tor Lyttelton on Friday. The Alexander is due on Thursday from Nelson and will sail the following day for Nelson* Westport, and Greymouth. The Ngatoro is due from Greymouth on. Wednesday with coal to bunker the Remuera- A , The Calm is due from Lyttelton to-day, nnd will sail for Wanganui to-morrow.
