PRICE OF MATTRESS CASES
BOARD OF TRADE PROSECUTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 27. Before Mr. Poynton, S.M., to-day, Ton- ■ son, Garlick, Ltd., were charged, on tho information of tho Board of Trade, with having sold to F. J< AVilliams,jof AVaapare Bay, near Gislxirne, 32 mattress cases at 4:82 165., which price was unreasonably high. Tho defence was that tho mattresses, being required for shearers’ beds, wero ’made of extremely strong quality; that when protest was made by AVilliams, ho was given a reduction of 16 per cent, as on a wholesale order; that after action had been instituted it was discovered that a gross clerical error; had IxM'n made bv a young lady in the factor}’. AVilliams, examined by Mr. M'Veigh, said he was not awaro that defendant company had sent'll cheque for 4128 14s. Gd. to him, care of tho Board of Trade. Further hearing of tho case was adjourned till October 14.
