Tho French war-sloop Aldebaran, which will arrive at Auckland on October 1, will stay there five or six days, before proceeding to Wellington, Akaroa. and Dunedin (states the Auckland “Star”). The last visit of the Alderbaran to Auckland took place in January, 1920, Commander Giratid being in charge. She had then on board Lieutenant Guiene, a ’wireless expert, and was engaged in a. number of experiments in wireless telegraphy from various points in the Pacific. It was then ascertained, with the co-opw-ation of the staff of the wireless service in New Zealand, that Franco and tho south of New Zealand being almost at the antipodes of’each other, tho facilities for the reception of signals exchanged between these twb countries were remarkably increased. The Aldebaran, built in a British shipyard during the war, is of the same typo as the Veronica. She was put into commission in the French Navy early in 1916, assisted in the convoys in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, and had several encounters with submarines. Finally, after having done service in tho Black Sea, the sloop for nearly two years has been stationed in tho Pacific, her headquarters being Noumea and Tahiti? From New Zealand she will proceed, by the end of tho month, to Hobart. The Canterbury Trades and Labour Council, at a meeting on Saturday evening, put on record its objection to the Government's action in permitting local bodies to borrow money at higher rates of interest than those prevailing dn normal times. It was decided that copies of the resolution bo sent to the Government, the Municipal Conference, and tho Labour members of Parliament. Big - money is often out of the simplest inventions, providing, of course, that thev are fully protected by Patent Rights. Patent that idea of yours, (here is probably "big money” in it.
