The Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour and Mines, was in his seat in the House of Representatives fjf- a short tiine yesterday. He is not yet able to resume fully his Ministerial duties. z
One month’s leave of absence was yesterday granted to the following members of the Upper House-.—The Hon. M. Cohen, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, and Sir William' Hall-Joncs. Tho Hon. E. H. Clark was granted leave of absence for ten clays.
The Rev. R. S. Gray, who has been on an extended health trip to Trance and England, will return to New Zealand by the Rcmuera, which is due in Auckland on October 1.
Air. L. Alackintosh Ellis and Mi< C. AL Alalfroy, of the State Forestry Department, who have been visiting Southland, are in Christchurch. Air. E. C. Purdid, secretary of the Aiickland Education (Board, has been granted one month’s leave .of absence from October 1, in order that ho may accompany Mr. E. C. Cutten and Mr. Horace Stebbing on a tour of tho South Island in the interests of the Young Citizens’ League.
A Christchurch Press Association message reports the death of Air. Thomas C. Norris, for over a quarter of a century secretary of the North .Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. His three' surviving sons are Mr. E. T. Norris, registrar of tho New Zealand JJniversity, Wellington; Air. .1. B. Norris, secretary of the New Zealand.’ Trotting Association; arid the Rev. A. H. Norris, vicar of Temukiv and Winchester. " ”

It is notified in this month’s General Orders, issued by Defence Hindquarters, that the King has been graciously pleased on the recommendation of the Government of India io av.nid the Alilitayy Cross to Lieut. George Herbert Clifton, N.Z. Staff Corps, for distinguished service in the field with the A\ aziristan force, f Mr. J. J. AValklate, who was general manager of the Auckland tramways prior to the system being taken over by tho corporation, has for some time been acting as Town Clerk, in succession to Air. H. AV. AVilson, who last .September was grauted a year’s leave of absence. Air 1 . AVilson has now Boon appointed town clerk io the® borough of Northcote, and has sent his resignation to the City Council. At the Inst meeting of the City Council, Air. AValklate was appointed Town Clerk of Auckland, and was congratulated upon the way ho had carried out his duties while in the acting capacity.
Air. C. Berkeley, who has made the advance arrangements in AVellingtoii for the J. C. AVilliamean "AVelcome Stranger" Co., will leave for Sydney to-day.
