Polson and- Captain Colbeck. president and vice-president respectively of the Fanners’. Union, addressed a meeting under the auspices of the local branch of the union to-night. Their remarks were on the same lines as thp addresses given elsewhere in the South Island. Referring io Armour and Co., Mr. Bolson expressed some sympathy with the firm, which had come into the open, but said that they were a trust operating throughout the world and must ho recognised as an enem?. The way to stop them. was not by haughty legislation dealing with Jicwiscs. There were other foreign com corns occupying freezing works, and comprehensive legislation was needed. He made a strong appeal for co-opera-tion as tho real solution of most of the Dominion’s .difficulties.
FARMERS’ UNION (From Our Own Correspondent.) Palmerston North, September 26, The Alanawatu Sub-Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union met at Levin on Saturday, when-there was * a fair attendance of delegates (from various branches. Mr. Buchanan, the president, gave a lengthy .and interesting address on tho aims and objects of the union, which was followed by a short discussion, and as an oijtcoiile it lias resolved to make an endyavoirr to got tru'd',iny? ctoncc*riis with the union more, advantageous terms in the matter of distribution of farmers’ requisites generally. Also, that the Government be urged to appoint another agricultural instructor for the Manawatu district, the one at present doing duty being unable to cope with the work.
