AVONDALE MEETING MOLYNEAU.X TVINS PLUM.PTON handicap. 8y Telegraph.—Special Oorreapondeat Auckland, September 2G. Perfect weather prevailed for the second day of thg Avondale Jockey Club’s spring l meeting, and the going was all that could be desired. There was a large attendance, mid the totalisutor handled .264,920, making <£128.474 10s. for the .meeting, an increase of .£1674 compared with last year. The Nursery Handicap resulted in a good'finish, Sir Otway getting the verdict by about half a length. The field were sent away well together. Potoa King and Master O'Horke led for the first half of the journey, but when heads were turned for home Just shot to the front closely followed by Sir Otway. The latter had the best of the battle up tho straight, and the judge was unable to separate Just and Refinement for second place. Shebang was fourth. Tho Avondale Guinean looked like a certainty for Rational, and tho public thought so, but tho public was disappointed. From a fine start Mermin and Grotesque shot to the front with the favourite in close pursuit. When a third of the journey had been traversed, Rational took command and led by two lengths to tho homo turn, Mermin and 1 Grotesque coming next, stride for stride.

When heads were turned for home. Grotesque put in a great run and heafled the leader. He swept on in. great style, and won decisively, Rational and Mermin being close together in second and third positions, with Young Thurnham fourth. Grotesque was third favourite. Eighteen horses started m the Plumpton Handicap. When the field settled into their stride, Tinohorcs Uncle Ned and Miss Muriel were in the van. With half the distance gone, Mifis Muriel was done, and a little later T.tnohoro began to tire. It now looked as if Uncle Ned would win, but the race wae not over. Molyneaux, who had been lying handy, moved up quickly and got level with Uncle Ned. A well-fought finish resulted in a vsrdict in favour of Molyneaux by--.ii peck, with Khublai Khan threequarters of a length away 5n third place, just about a head in froiy: of Tinohoro. Admiral Codrington (the favourite) did not get away well, and Gold Kip was never dangerous. * The falling of Golden /Glade and Monoplane enabled Oakleigh, who ran a faultless race, to score an easy, victory in the Mount Albert Steeplechase. In an exciting run homo Signature just managed to beat Tenacious by a head for second nlace. i ~ The President’s Handicap was well won by Absurdum, who wps the first to show in front and was never headed. Tama-a-roa was coming very fast at the finish, but was reprived of second place by Tigrinia in the last few strides. Right and Left was a good fourth. « The best performance of the day was Radiant Light’s win in the New Lynn Handicap. She got a bad start and was pushed back’ till she got into the last division of the great field. Oliver got her going again wjien half the journey had been covered. ' She made a splendid run up the' straight, and coming through on the inside, won by half a length. Qliver and his mount were accorded an ovation. DETAILS OF THE RACING.
