A SERIOUS CHARGE
PUBLICATION OF ACCUSED’S NAME FORBIDDEN. A well-educated man, 46 years of age, appeared before Mr. ,J. S. Evans, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morn, ing charged with committing an indecent assault on a girl seven years of age. Mr. H. H. Cornish appeared for the accused. Chief Detective Ward, in asking for a remand until Wednesday, remarked that the incident' , 'occurred at a picture theatre. , Mr. Cornish suggested that the bail «hould' # be light, and stated that the accused's employer would keep a watch over him. Counsel also asked that the Magistrate should order that accused’s name be not published in the papers. The accused' was a highly-educated man, said Mr. Cornish, and felt his position more than, perhaps, others less highly educated.’. He believed he had a good defence; at'’all events, no harm would bo done in withholding his name until ho came up for trial. The Magistrate acceded to counsel’s request and made an order that the name should not be published. Tho remand aS requested was.granted, and bail was fixed at ,£l5O.
