THE GIRLS’ COLLEGE

WHO CAUSED THE DELAY. Tho Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) on Saturday made a further reference to the Girls’ College controversy in reply to some remarks by the chairman ©f tho Education Board (Mr- T. Forsyth). "Tn his reply to my statement yesterday," said the Minister, "Mr. Forsyth has the assurance to state that I had carefully avoided tho main issue, viz., the delay in connection with the excavation of the new site for the Girls’ High School. My statement dealt with nothing else but this delay* and exposed the attempt originally made by Mr. Forsyth to lay the blame for delay on the Government. Mr. Forsyth makes no apology for this fruitless attempt, but in face of the fact that his board took from October, 1920, to March,- 1921, to let a contract, and that his board then wasted five months up to August of this year, through losing Ito contract, and caused a further loss of nearly three weeks since August 24 through delaying to forward its plans—in face of nil this, Mr. Forsyth seeks still to indict the Government concerning an alleged delay of eleven days between September 10 and September 21, when he made his original 1 unfair criticism. Mr. Forsyth is really hopeless, and but for his dfficial position I should err in giving some of his stat-e--ijients serious notice."
