The “New York Times” correspondent at Washington states that Senator Borah has turned th® tables on Senator Lodge. When President Harding's Peace Treaty with Germany was introduced to tho Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Borah, who formerly ted the irreconcilables, declared that, since.it 'was based on the Versailles pact, it was open to the same objections, and he demanded that Senator Lodge’s reservations should .be adopted,. making it impossible for the State Department to name the American representative to the Reparations Commission without the ' consent of the Senate. He pointed out that participation by th® United States in the Reparations Commission would mean America’s participation in European affairs for at least forty years. He added that tho United States would also be obliged to kc-cp troops in Germany, and concluded by stating that the Treaty would take America through tho back instead of the front door into European entertainments. Senator Lodge immediately went to consult Mr. Hughes (Secretary of State). —Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
