Numbers are missing and aro believed to be imprisoned alive among the wreckage of' collapsed houses. Thousands aro homeless, and slept in the fields. A dreadful aspect of the disaster is that numbers lire stricken with blindness and fifty such coses have been sent to Heidelberg. Threo-fourths of Oppau is beyond repair and there must bo a clean sweep of the ruins before a fresh start can be made. —“The Times. (Rec. September 24 5.5 p.m.) Berlin, September 23. A large number of people were blinded by the Oppau explosion. Forty are in Heidelberg Eye Hospital alone. Many others were injured by being flung 20 or 30 feet by air currents.
