RECAPTURED IN A BAR
CAFFREY IN GAOL AGAIN. Bj’ Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, September 24. Tlie escaped prisoner George Caffrey, alias Johnstone, was captured by Con, etable Clifford in an hotel this afternoon. The constable was in the bar of tho hotel when ho noticed a man answering Caffrey’s description at the counter The man was 1 wearing a brown suit, and was obviously cure that ho was clear of tho police. Constable Clifford went up to him and invited him to return to the police station. Ha protested, and Constable Allen was called in. Caffrey then submitted and went with them.
Caffrey made a sensational escape from a moving train on Saturday, August 27. The train was near Parnell tunnel when the prisoner, who is a quarter-caste Nor, folk Islander, jumped through the lavatory window. The constable escorting him went back to the tunnel when tho eserpo was noticed, but tlie prisoner was clear, and was not scan during the throe weeks preceding his recapture today.
