Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Riddell and Miss Riddell have returned to Wellington after a holiday visit to Australia extending over three months. It is their intention to remain a few days in the city and then go south. Mr. Riddell is oft six montlfc’ leave of absence from magisterial duties. The Patent Office -'staff on Saturday said farewell to Mr. H. C. Young, who, after many years’ service, it, severing his connection with the office. ' He leaves a widow, three daughters, and eight grandchildren. Tho daughters are ' Mesdanies A. Goldsmith (Auckland), A. Humphrey (Wellington), and D. Hook i (Lovin). I Mr. R. P. Ward, who is to take up duty as Registrar of the Auckland Supremo Court on Mr. A. Stubbs’s retirement, was farewelled by members of the Dunedin Law Society last week. Mr. A. Janies, president, of tho Otago Law Society. said that the good opinion they had first formed of Mr. Ward had been fully justified, and the fact that his Cervices were appreciated by those in authority was shown by his appointment to tho largest Supremo Court office in New Zealand.
