MAINTENANCE ADVANCES
APPLICATIONS TO SOCIAL WELFARE COMMITTEE. Tho following tabulated statement of the reasons given by applicants to the Social Welfare Committee of the Hospital Tcard for maintenance advances was presented to the board at Thursday’s meeting;— August. July. June.
Mr. A. J. M'Curdy said in reference to the unemployed that there were over thirty on tho books, but when tho acid test of work was applied there were only sixteen. The inference wns that at a time like this many of tho so-called unemployed were imposters, who did not want to do any work. Mr. T’riherick snid that the work given the men consisted of gorse grubbing, tree planting, and path making.
