RAT DESTRUCTION AND REMOVAL OF REFUSE. IN consequrace of the (outbreak of Plague in Australia, the Public Health Department considers it advisable that Local Bodies should take every precaution against the possibility cf the infection obtaining a foothold in New Zealand. His Worship the Mayor, therefore, :-e--quests that all Citizens will have all refuse now upon their premises removed at once, and prevent any accumulation for tho future, fle these accumulations are undoubtedly an encouragement to rats. That they will also take every means to destroy rats as these animals are now known to be the great carrier# of the plague gelmi. Tho Corporation Inspectors have been instructed to take vigorous steps to see that all City premises are kept in a cleanly condition. The Mayor hopes that Citizens will cordially co-operate and assist tho Council in carrying out these requirements. Legal action will lie promptly taken in all cases where there is any neglect. JNO.
