Though tho horns of cattlo may be said to bo ornaments as well as weapons, and sentiment may be on tho side of retaining them, a great deal is to be said on tho other side, in proof of which a Government agricultural authority in Canada some time ago gave the following nine reasons for dehorning:—(l) They are worth 2s. per hundredweight more live weight; (2) they make better cattle when matured; (3) they are more, contented; (4) they are more kindly to one another; (5) they do not produce in other animals a nervous, restless temperament by inflicting injury, often severe, as they do if wearing horns; (6) they produce more milk, since they are free from fear of each other; (7) they produce mono beef for tho same reason; (S) there is less danger to the people who have them in charge: (fl) the bull, which sometimoa kills his kcejier, cannot do so if dehorned.
