ESTABLISHMENT PROPOSED. ' By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, September 19. On Saturday, Mr. IV. J. Polson, president of the New Zealand Farmers Union, received a telegram from the Director of Agriculture permitting him to divulge a scheme over which, up to now, the Government had 1 requested scciJpcy. The scheme proposes the establishment of a shipping board, comprising woolgrowers,’ meat exporters, and representatives of dairy factories and other branches of rural industry, such beard to have legal powers to /strike a special rate over wool, meat,Lind dairy pfoduce, and such rate to be supplemented by a £ for £ subsidy by the Government These contributions would be the capital of a producers’ shipping company, the ■ scrip to be issued to contributors, ine scheme has to be submitted to Cabinet, and the Government is not in any way committed. When Mr. Massey returns the matter will bo considered, and farmers are advised to let tho Government know that they expect a practical result from .the proposal.

Tho scheme mentioned 1 by Mr. W. J. Polson, president) of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, at Christchurch, was drafted some time ago by the Producers Committee, and placed before the ActingPrime Minister and other members of the Government. The Ministers decided to hold over the matter until Mr. Massey returned from London, and no progress has been made, since that time. Mr Massey has been making special inquiries in Britain regarding shipping matters, and he has been kept informed of the plans that have been discussed in the Dominion. ,It is anticipated that he will be ready to lay some important information before the Producers’ Committee and also before Parliament after his return.
