FRENCH CLUB
The fortnightly meeting of the Cercle Litteraire Francois took place at the rooms of the Y.W.C.A. on Friday evening, when there was a good atendanc? of members. A lecture on New Zealand medicinal plants was given by Mrs. Johnstone, and songs in French were beautifully rendered by Madame Calx-1, and two fine duets for piano and violin were plaved bv the Misses Smythson. Madame Dechanet-Mackintosh met with great success in a charming play Le Cyclopc,” which she- very effectively rendered together with the president, the latter also giving Lamartine’s famous “Priere ” and one or two other poems which wero well received. Supper, served by Mesdamcs Cftbel and Du Flou, ended an enjoyable evening.
