MAGISTRATE’S COURT

Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., had a number of women of the unfortunate class to 'deal with yesterday. Rose Patterson was convicted of loitering in Ghwjnee Street for immoral purposes, and was ordered, to remain in the Salvatiqn Army Home for 12 months Elizabeth-Edge, Annie Smith, . and Elizabeth Wilson were charged with being idle and disorderly persons in that they habitually consorted With reputed thieves and prostitutes. The police evidence was that these three women were frequent visitors to a house in Tin Street, where carousals were held and where men were frequently found. Susan Wilson (for whom Mr. ,C. A. L. Treadwell appeared) was similarly charged. The latter was tho occupier of the house, and while the other three had records of earlier convictions, Susan Wilson had not been before the Court previously. It was stated on her behalf that she was a married woman separated from her husband. She was in receipt of 395. ■per week maintenance money, and her son. a youth who lived with her, earned 20s. per week. Suwin Wilson was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within six months, and was ordered to get out of ' Tui Street. Edge, Smith, and E. Wilson were each sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. _ j Folr drunkenness, ■ John Hanna was fined 205., with tho option of three days’ imprisonment.
