STREET CADGER SENT Tt> PRISON, j i , Jeremiah Bresnahan, a young man with a hod police record, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M., with being an idle and disorderly person, in that he was found begging alms in Brandon Street. Brosnahan was seen by a constable, to accost several "people. Tn Brandon Street he stopped a. man who had just come out_of an office and asked for 2s, On this being refused, he struck the man. The complainant gave tho policeman a few details and then pm.de off to catch a train. Brosnahan denied begging, and claimed that he hnd no need of money as he was a hardworking man. Tire Magistrate said he preferred to' believe the policeman.—He convicted and sentenced Brosnahan to a month's imprisonment. For drunkenness. Thomas Blake was fined 205., in default three days’ imprisonment;'James F. Scott was fined 10s., with the alternative of 43 hours’ imprisonment. , : 1 •,
