PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
POSITION OF ASSISTANT PUBLIC TRUSTEE. The position of Assistant Public tee, rendered vacant through .the appointment of Mr.- J. W. for ‘Public Trustee, has remained unfilled for some time.’' By the provisions of the Public' Trust Office Amendment Act, 1917 it is requisite that one of the sistant Public Trustees should-be a barrister and solicitor of tho Supreme Court. The Act as drafted and passed apparently did not contemplate a case where the Public Trustee was himself a t-an’istei and solicitor. In such a case «®o St Ofc. Hales, Engineer-in-Chief of the R ubll ° Works Department. He was educated Wellington College, and the ’\ cac ’ of the Public Trust Office as a cadet el DeccmLr 1894. Since then he has passed through all branches of the office, and within recent years le Ins filled the positions of inspector in the head office, local Deputy Public Trustee nt Dunedin, and local Deputy Pi|lm Trustee at Auckland. He has been closely identified with sport of various kinds, having represented the Wellington province both as a cricketer and as a Rugby footballer. At one time he held for some vears the position of chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union and committeeman of the New Zealand Rugby Union. ________
