GREAT DESTRUCTION IN TEXAS , HEAVY DEATH-ROLL 1 REPORTED WILD STORM IN CARIBBEAN SEA By Telegraph—Presa Association —Copyright (Rec. September 11, 5.5 p.m.) New York, September 10. A tSTegram from San Antonio, Texas, slates that a cloudburst caused considerable damage to property. Many reports received indicate that as many as five hundred were killed, although the number is considered to be highly exaggerated. Telephone and telegraph wires in tho stricken region were destroyed, and reliable information is therefore unavailable. f A wild storm raging in the CaribbeanSea devastated several islands, sinking ships caught in mid-sea. Twenty-one bodies have been recovered from the flooded residential districts of the city, which are under twelve feet of water. The cloudburst was most violent over the southern and central part of tho State, and in San Antonio did the greatest damage to business and residential sections. »Ten inches of rain fell in a .few hours. Looting -began in the devastated areas of S{in Antonio. The Mayor enlisted the aid of State troops, who are patrolling the area. Hundreds tof homeless are ,being provided for. Various cities of the State, including the capital, are cut off from communication w’ith each other, resulting in inability to distressed. •“Urge part of the State’s cotton crop is believed to be ruined. The cloudburst at San x AnJjonio was part of a national thunderstorm and: ' disturbances from the Canadian NorthV\st to the Gulf of Mexico. 1 There were tornadoes, in South Dakota and Nebraska.
