A message from Perth announces the death on' August 22 of Mr. Frank Hann, a- well-known explorer. Ho was 75 years of age. Mr. .Hann had led a very adventurous life. Ho arrived in Vittoria in 1851 at the ago of five years. In 1862 he went to QuoensMnd, where his first job was to take a mob of 2000 head of cattle to the Condaininc. Along with his brother, Mr. J. C. Hann, now o fOcoan Grove (V.l, heafterwards acquired Bluff Down, Maryvale, and Lolworth Stations. Later lie took up Lawn Hill Station, on the Gulf of Carpentaria. While there' ho had many exciting experiences with the blacks, one of tho most thrilling being an attempt to capture the notorious gaol-breilker and murderer, Joe Flick. Flick, who hnd broken tout ‘of Normanton Gaol, killed Constable Wa.vell, also a black boy. He also shot Mr Hann, in the chest, the bullet coming out of hig. shoulder. , Mr. Hann was tho first white man to take stock from tho Gulf of Carpentaria to the Northern Territory. During later years he was engaged bf the West Australian Government in opening up stock routes and pastoral areas in the interior. He made throe successful journeys from the Indian Ocean to Oodnadatta. A few years ngo Mr. Hann had a bad fall from 'his horse, and broke his hip, which never properly healed. Tins put an end to his exploring activities. Mr. Hann was well known in Victoria.
