A rumour whichl has gained currency locally, that rficn were being dismissed from the Palmerston North railway .staff and their places filled by immigrants has been given a complete denial by Air. Morgan, the stationmaster. With' the exception of one case, where discipline was concerned, no men have been put off or takun on. There has been no reduc-. lien of ’the local staff as iho result of the "cut.” Reports from Foxton slate that it is anticipated that whitebait will be very plentiful this season.
