RUGBY
MARLBOROUGH V. WELLINGTON TO-MORROW. At Athletic Park to-morrow, Marlborough will meet Wellington. The visitors come with the reputation of a good combination, both back and forward. They defeated the Wellington represent*-'-fives last year and put up a good fight ■ against the victorious New South Wales team. Marlborough are winners of the Seddon, Shield. The Rugby Union has | had te make special arrangements to get the visitors here, owing to the length I of time they would be absent from Marl-; borough and the heavy expense. Arrangements are almost complete for' the announcing of the scores at Athletic Park in the Test match to be played at, Auckland on Saturday. This should bo . an additional attraction to patrons, and • those who were impressed with the expedition with which the scores in the first match were announced —a maximum of two minutes being employed from transmission to announcement —will no doubt appreciate this great opportunity. The* Rugby Union is ,hoping to get not only the scores by various progress re-, ports, but the scorers as well, giving pat-, rons a good idea of how the big match is proceeding. \ The Marlborough team arrived by tho Mapourika, and is staying at Barrett's Hotel. Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, August 25. The final district match in the Moascar Cup competition was played hero to-day between the Napier High School (who had previously defeated Palmerston North and Napier Technical College) and thp Maori Agricultural College (who last week beat Te Aute). The gamo was remarkably even. The Agricultural College scored 9 points in the first spell (tries by Bayne, I' erris, and Nepia), and High School got 9 points in the second spell (a penalty goal by Fisher, and tries bj' M. Benth and Williams). An extra spell of ten minutes was played, in which High School were awarded a tiy to Hickling for obstruction by an opponent, and thus won by 12 ’points to 9. Both sides played good football, but tho winners appeared somewhat stale, iliie doubtless to the fact that this was their third match in six days.
