INSANITARY DWELLINGS

PROVISION FOR THEIR/DEMOLITION REGULATIONS ISSUED The Health Act placed on the Statute Book last year provides machinery for tho demolition of building!; that are considered by the health officers to be unfit for occupation or dangerous to health. The local authority may call upon the owner of such a building to demolish it. Tho authority must issue this notice if called upon to/do so by the Board of Health. If tho owner does not comply with the notice the local authority may apply to a Magistrate for a demolition order. The Magistrate will- hear the case, and if he issues the order, the owner must coihply withit or become liable to a fine of -PM in addition to the full cost of the removal of tho building by the local authority. Regulations under this part <f the Act have now been issued. They provide that the local authority shall make application to the Magistrate s Court nearest its public office. A copy of the application must be sent to tho owner of tho building, and the Court will give the parties fourteen days'* notice of the hearing. The local authprity and the owner,'and also such other < parties as the Court, may think fit-may be repre seated at the hearihg by counsel.
