The Union Company’s passenger steamer Manuka left Sydney on Saturday for Wellington direct. The vessel >s due here on Wednesday, and will leave on. Monday. August 29, on the return trip to Sydney. DRIED FRUITS FROM AMERICA. In order to ensure supplies of dried fruits from the Pacific Coast of America reaching New Zealand in time for the coming season, the Dunedin agents aavise that the steamer West Holbrook will be loading at San Francisco early in September, and the steamer West Maliwait early in October. These vessels will call at anv nort in New Zealand provided there is sufficient cargo offering to warrant tho call. HUIA’S ROUGH VOYAGE. Advice received by the last Australian mail states that, rough weather conditions were experienced on the voyage from New Zealand by the schooner Hum. which reached Melbourne on August 2. timber-laden. from Greymouth. The schooner encountered gailcs on practically the whole of tho voyage, which occupied twenty-one days. The worst weather was met in Bass the schooner frequently having to heave-to. Her foresail was blow to ribbons a-na two Jibs were also carried away by the gale. The Huia evidently received nuick disnatch at Melbourne as she sailed from there on August 12 with a cargo of explosives for discharge at Dunedin and other New Zealand ports PORT BOWEN’S MOVEMENTS. The 0. and D. liner Port Bowen expected to sail for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers at noon to-day. After completion of discharge at the latter port she is to load at Dunedin, Bluff, and Wcllingtun. sailing finally for London from here about September 15. WEST CAMARGO AT AUCKLAND. The General Steamship Corporation’s steamer West Camargo arrived at Auckland on Friday from New York. She has cargo for Wellington and other southern ports and will tranship this at the northern port, afterwards proceeding to Australia. PORT LINCOLN DELAYED. The 0. and D. liner Port Lincoln has been delayed and will not sail for Sydney now until Wednesday. DORSET FROM NEW YORK. The Federal Line have received from the Dorset a wiieless message stating that she expects- to arrive at Auckland this afternoon. She has New Tork cargo for discharge and should bo here to-day week After completing discharge hero she will proceed to Lyttelton, Dunedin, aud New Plymouth. NGAHERE DELAYED. The local agents advise that the Ngshere’s loading nas held up at Grey-mouth on Saturday on account of the ram. Tho vessel will not now arrive In Wellington before Tuesday night or Wednesday. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain J. E. Walker, late of the barque Gladbrook, has gono on holiday leave. Mr. J E. Warwick has joined the Kaikorai as second officer. . Mr. A. J. Henry has left the Waimea on which ho was first mate, and gone to Nelson to take command of the Alexander while ‘iaptain Wildman is on holiday leave. Mr. G. Maylun has joined the Waimea in Mr. Henry's stead Mr C. P. 0 Edwards has signed on the Paloona's articles aa assistant-purser, vice Mr. V. B. Johnson. The Ncatoro is expected from Greymouth about Thursday. The Komata sailed for 3Ve«t.port on Saturday and should arrive back on Wednesday. , , , The Katoa. is expected back from Dunedin and Lvttelton next Thursday and should sail the same day for Auckland. Tile Rama, .is to sail to-day for Dunedin. Oamaru. and Titnaru, and should arrive back next. Saturday. The Zita will probably sail to-day for IVesthavcn to load for Wellington.
