FRENCH CLUB
The usual fortnightly meeting of the French Club was held on Friday night, at tho Y.W.C.A. Rooms. Over CO persons were present, among them the commander and officers of the large sailing vessel France. A musical evening had been arranged by Miss C. Sullivan, and was a great success. The following programme was given, every item being en-cored-.—Madame Lawrence, “Romance by Sibelius; "Mlle. Drury, “Sir tn Sayais”; Mr Loftus, "’Tis tho Bay”; Master S. Ellis, “Out Where the West Begins ; Miss Price, “A String of Pearls”; Mis® Anketcll, "Pierette, ‘Chaminade”; Mr. Benge, “Ninon”; General Tarbaieff. “Massenet’s Werther." The "clou” of the evening was udoubtedly Mies. C. Ellis’s dancing of the "Marseillaise This was vociferously applauded, and supplemented by a vigorous “Marseillaise” sung bv all present, the French visitors doing their part in true French style. Supper was then served, and general conversation indulged in. A vote of thanks to tho performers, also to Mes. dames Lawrence and Ellis, who acted e« accompanists, brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
