EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION
MR T FORSYTH. REPLIES TO THlli DIRECTOR.
The chairman of tho Education Board (Mr T. Forsyth), replying to the last statement of the Director of Education, GaYS —“When I forwarded my annual report to iho Minister of Education, I suggested some methods whereby greater efficiency and economy could- be obtained by slightly altering the regulations. X feel it is not advisable to further discuss such proposals with the Director of Education, as in my opinion the Minister and not the Director should dictate any alteration in policy, should he think lit, on the lines suggested in my report to fairness to myself, I desire to state that I have never stated or even in, terred that the Minister of Education endorsed- the board’s new scheme or method of appointment of teachers, and if any puch statement has appeared In the Press it is due to an error in repotting. "The executive of jthe N.Z.E.I. certainly commended the’ board's sebeme to tho Minister, but as far as I know ho has not yet expressed an opinion on the scheme. I am pleased that Mr. Caughley is agreeable to meet the board in conference on tho subject matter of his recent memorandum to the board, and I cordially invito him to be present at our next monthly meeting, when 1 trust a reasonable and workable interpretation of tho now Act regarding appointments will be arrived at, which will satisfy tho teachers, having due regard to the most important factor in our national system, i.c., the best interests of the children—a scheme that will be efficient and economical."
