A cable message from London reports that Sir Thomas Mackenzie has left for New Zealand in the Rotorua. Mr. William Dluncau Kibblewhite, a very old settler, died yesterday afternoon at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. J D. Cameron, at Eastbourne. The late Mr. Kibblewhite was born in Wellington in 1843, and lived with his parents on the Old Porirua Road, and later at the Lower Hutt. On the formation of the Wairarapa Small - Farm Settlement, he went to Masterton in advance of his father, to look after the farm on. the Upper Plain, where he did his full share of pioneering work. After a period as a business man in Masterton he again ventured into farming when the Pahiatua district was thrown open for settlement, and afterwards went farming at Fitzherbert, Palmerston North. He retired some yeare ago owing to failing health. The late Mr. Kibblewhito was well known as a bowler in Palmerston North, Wanganui, Masterton, and Wellington. His wife predeceased him some years ago. Ho is survived by one son, Mr. J. 11. Kibblewhite, of Haturna, Hawke’s Bay, and two daughters, Airs. Connor, Wanganui, and Mrs. J D. Cameron, Eastbourne. The body is to be buried at Masterton to-morrow.
Mr. R. Algoe, of the Auckland “Herald” literary staff, who has accepted an appointment on the staff of Tun Dominion. was presented on Thursday night by the Auckland Rugby Union Executive with a silver cigarette case in token of the esteem in which ho is personally held by the members of the executive, and in recognition of his consistent support of the Rugby game during his journalistic career in Auckland. Mr. Algoe also received congratulations on his advancement, and expressions of good will from the Journalists’ Association Executive, of which he is a popular member. Dr. Arthur, who had hoped to leave yesterday for Panama, to meet Mrs. Arthur, who is on her way back from England, found that he could not make tho necessary arrangements at this end and had to abandon the trip. Mr. R. Coombes, president of the Athletic Union of Australia and Now Zealand, left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa on Thursday.
