NOTES AND COMMENTS By Glbkcob. x Owners are given a reminder that acceptances for tho Dannevirke Hunt Club’s meeting close on Friday next. A Southland owner was very anxious to buy Tigerlund, and was not particular as to the price, but Mr. H. A. Russell would not put a price on the chestnut. Tho Malakoff Stakes, run at Caulfield Carly this month, went to Ethiopian, who is owned by the ex-Wellingtoman Mr. W. Riordan. Ethiopian won the same event twelve months ago. Tho Now Zealand-bred four-year-old Peroration (Kilbroney—Flowery Speech) was successful in the Maiden Handicap at Rosehill early this month. Peroration, who is owned by the Randwick trainer, T. F. Scully, started favourite. A patron of P. Coffey’s New Plymouth stables was yesterday negotiating for tho purchase of Callaghan, or he would have leased the handsome chestnut for his racing career, but Mr. W. Higgins would not treat at all. It. Reed left for Hastings yesterday to ride some work for J. H. Jefferd. The latter will be represented at the Dannevirke Hunt Club meeting by Grotesque, which' will have a public trial for the Avondale Guineas.

Toa Taua and hie two-year-old fullbrother are under orders to race at the Avondale meeting next month. A patron of T. George’s Awapuni stables inquired as to the chances of buying Royal Star, but the owner would not consider putting a price on the Martian gelding. It turns out that Master Strowan broke down during the running of the National Steeplechase, and Lochella also pulled up badly. Both horses will require a lengthy spell. At Woodville yesterday J. Deerey schooled Haurangi over brush fences, and the gelding gave a good display. He is to be a runner at the Dannevirke meeting next week. The Woodville trainer, F. Davis, has been seriously ill of late, and/ during his enforced confinement his team has been under the care of G. Morris. Toleirance (Boniform—lnnocence), who has been purchased by an Auckland sportsman is to make his first appearance in his new owner’s colours at Dannovirko next week. Ho will contest the Maiden Race, and will be ridden by A. Reed. Quest, who is to contest the Wanganui Guineas, will be given his first race this season in the Flying Handicap at Marton. Wheatfield, Iby (Buckwheat, will also race at tho same meeting
