MDLLE. LENGLEN DEFAULTS TO MRS. MALLORY.

Mdlle. Suzanne Lenglen, who came to America to compete in the women’s national championship, lost one sot, 6—2, m the match with Mrs. Mallory, the present champion, and then defaulted, claiming illness. A fit of coughing seized the Frenchwoman, who was suffering from a cold when she arrived. A large and fashionable gallery of_ the Westside Tennis Club greeted the deiault in silence, cheering Mrs. Mallory testily when she came un apd patted Jldl e. Lenglen. The Frenchwoman had declared she would easily beat Mrs. Mallory, —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
