Sir William Harries is due to arrive in Wellington next week. He is aboard the Rimutaka. Tho Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) has returned to Wellington after a visit to tho Auckland district. Mr. F. Hoddy, M.P., and Mr. R. M'Ctdlum, ALP., are in Wellington. There was a largo gathering in the Empire /Dieatre, (j.’etono, last evening to bid forewoll to Mr. D. S. Bedingficld, headmaster of tho West School, who has been transferred to a similar position at tho District High School. Mr. H. Jay (chairman of tho School Committee) prosided, and associated with him on the platform were Mr. Bedingfield, Mies Beryl Bedingfield, and Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P. for tho district. In presenting Mr. Bedingfield with a gold watch, Mr. Wilford said that recently the Wellington Education Board had taken away more than me of the teachers the children loved, and while that, of course, was a matter for credit, they could not help regretting I hat those who had don« so well with tho children, should bo removed to other spheres. Tho gathering was testimony to tho parents’ appreciation of Mr. Bodingfield’s services, and Mr. Wilford expressed the hope that the departing headmaster s life would bo happy. Musical and elocutionary itemi were contributed, and the gathering concluded with the singing of "For Ho’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

Tlio following resignations of teachers were accepted at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Education Board:—B. Clarke (Hataitai), M. Kearney (Hinakura), K. Withy (Karori). I. Willis (Brooklyn), F. Freeman (Waikawa Pa).

Mr. J. D. Andrew, Mayor of Napier, and Mr. Dick, town clerk, also of Napier, are visiting Wellington, and aro staying at Barrett’s Hotel.
