WAR PENSIONS
WORK OF THE APPEAL BOARD AN INTERESTING SUMMARY The number of appeals placed before the War Pensions Appeal Board so far has been 273, and of these 198 have been the subject of decisions. The board has 75 appeals still in hand, and will deal with 39 of them at Auckland and. Hamilton this week. A survey of the work ' done already shows that the Appeal Board is confirming the work of the War Pensions Board iu tho large majority of cases. Some men who have apficaled for increased pensions have been granted smaller sums than tuey had previously received from tho Pensions Board. The soldier who asks to have his pension reviewed takes the 1 risk of this occurring The appeals that, nave been banditti uy the Appeal Board comprise 194 from soldiers and four iroin dependants. The returns show that 147 of the soldiers’ appeals have been dismissed. The Appeal Board has given increases to TJ men, reinstated four pensions that had been cancelled, granted four new pensions, and reduced 11 pensions. Some of .the appeals were withdrawn. Three of the appeals by dependants were dismissed. One widow was granted a pension previously refused 'her, tho ground of refusal having been that her husband’s death was not due to war injury.
