A CAMERA THIEF

SENT TO PRISON FOR SIX MONTHS. A young num named John Joseph O’Riordan pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to eight separate thefts of cameras, of the total value of 4157 12s. 6d., tho property of Kodak Ltd. Acting-Chief Detective Andrews stated that tho accused had been in the employ of Kodak Ltd. from March’ 5 to June 26 as a salesman, and during this period ho got away with the cameras. They were taken out of thoir boxes and tho latter were left behind on the shelves, so that it was not possible to detect (hat the cameras were missing. Fourteen cameras were stolen, but not all had boon recovered. On November 9 last O’Biordan was before the Court in Napior, charged with theft and was placed on prolxition. Mr. A. Treadwell stated that O’Riordati suffered from heart trouble, and owing to tho mental stress occasioned by this and other matters he took the goods and pawned them. Tho Magistrate: And sold the pawn tickets. He is a single man with no one but himself to support; he was in a good billet and systematically stole the cameras. He had his ch? nee previously. O’Riordan was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each of (he first two charges, tho terms to be cumulative, and o” the other six charges he was convicted and discharged.
