THE TURF

C.J.C. ACCEPTANCES By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, August 12. Tho following are the acceptances forthe concluding day of the C.J.C. Grand National meeting:— LONGBEACII HUNTERS’ HURDLES HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Once round and a, distance.

THE C.J.C. MEETING FINAL DAY’S FIELDS. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Christchurch, August 12. The C.J.C. meeting will be brought to a conclusion to-day. There has been some rain at Riccarton, but not enough to affect ths going, which should be good. Considering it is the third day of tho meeting, the fields in the various events are up to the average. The Hunters’ Hurdles may go to Heady, who was successful in ths same class of event on the opening day Birkenvale will improve on his first day’s showing, but Ready . seems to bo a very useful sort.

There are only four acceptors in the Aylesbury Steeplechase, and Fire Eater, who has already defeated the others in the Enfield Steeplechase, may not experi- . ence any difficulty ill again doing so. Dainty Step will have plenty of supporters in the Heathcote Handicap. The black mare ran a sterling race under adverse conditions on Thursday, and the distance to-day will be more to her liking. However, she can expect a lot of opposition from I’ine Arch. The latter is going on the right way, and it is difficult to say how much she had in reserve on Thursday. Mazama may lie the best of the light-weights. The improving Tigritiya may be the public fancy in the Styx Hack Hurdles, but the distance may again find her out, as she has not yet learned to settle down in a long race. The top weights have both got plenty of weight, and Te Oro has already had two hard races. Variform, who is in with the minimum, may outstay tho others. Crosswords may have most followers in the Sydenham Hurdles, as she was in charge half a mile from home in the National Hurdles. Demagogue should be all the better for the schooling he hud in the big event, and the good staying Whipcord should also be able to belter his performance of Thursday, when he was kept a long way out of it over the first part of the race. The Lincoln Steeplechase should be a good contest between Waimai and Slurdee, both of whom have net raced since the opening day. Waimai has been raised 171 b., which makes it look as if the weight adjuster thinks he had the National Steeplechase won when he fell. The Redcliffs Handicap may be a match between Royal Mac and Cantoris. The first-named ran a splendid race in the Winter Cup, and was very handy at seven furlongs. Cantoris has been raised a stone, which should help to bring him back to the others. The race Will Oakland had on xnursdav should work a lot of improvement in’him, and he may defeat the others to-day. Mustard Pot has a rise of 111 b., but it may not stop him. as he was the last to leave tho mark on Thursday. Fabrinade and Weldone can both go very fast, but the journey is ouite far enough for them.
