The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council was held yesterday, the chairman, Mr. S. Bryant, presiding. It was agreed- to secure from Mr. 11. B. Kennv a five years’ lease of sufficient ground for the erection of an explosives magazine. - , Reporting on metal supplies, the works’ committee expressed the that screened metal was unsuitable tor the council’s- roads at this period of the year, and as other supplies of metal were in sight, it recommended that the order placed verbally with the Hutt County Council be cancelled.—The recommendation was adopted. It was resolved to renew the council s subsidy towards the Wellington, Central Library scheme, thereby ensuring the circulation of books among schools situated- in the county. . In view of the possible citation of the council bv a neighbouring local body towards the apportionment and contribution. of the cost of erection of certain bridges, the chairman and clerk were authorised, should occasion arise, to oppose the citation. : The chairman was appointed delegate to the New Zealand Counties’ Conference, which is set down for September 28.
