AN EASY WIN FOR AUSTRALIA WARWICKSHIRE BEATEN BY AN INNINGS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, August 9. The Australians defeated Warwickshire by an innings and 61 runs. The Australians did not continue their innings to-day, Armstrong declaring it closed. In their second innings Warwickshire were disposed of for 118. The weather was fine and tha wicket firm after rolling. Bates and Green faced Gregory and M'Donald, and the first four overs were maidens. Off the first seven overs only six runs were scored. In half an hour 22 went up, of which Bates was responsible for 20. At 27 Armstrong relieved M'Donald. Green went at 81, stumped by Oldfield. Bates, when his score was 23, played a vorker on to his wicket. Quaife partnered Charlesworth, and at 43 M'Donald went on vice Gregory. Off his first over Armstrong brilliantly caught Quaife. Charlesworth and Holdsworth carried the total to 63. The halicontury took sixty-five minutes to obtain. Charlesworth was caught by Ryder. Just previously M'Donald had dropped him. off Armstrong. The wickets fell fast after luncheon. Scorer failed to negotiate one of M'Donald’s full-pitches, Holdsworth played the same bowler on, and Smart spooned one to Collins. Seven for 89. Oldfield then bagged Partridge. Cross partnered Rotherham, who was missed by Taylor in the long field, off Armstrong, when he had made a single. The pair brought the score to 112 before M'Donald found Rotherham’s stumps. The end came with M'Donald bowling Howell. The following are the scores:— AUSTRALIA.
