GAUL’S “HOLY CITY”
A largo and appreciative audience greeted (he performance of Gaul’s ‘ City” bv the combined choirs of St. Matthew's.'Brooklyn, and Ft. Hilda’s, Island Bay. last evening. Tho soloists, Mrs. W. E. Clarke (soprano), Mrs. AV. Coventry (contralto). Messrs. E. W. Lewis (tenor), and !■’. Laycock (bass) were in excellent voice, and were heard to advantage in the solo numbers, which called, for and received very artistic treatment. A powerful chorus rendered the choral numbers in a way that indicated careful rehearsing throughout. each choir having been trained by its own choirmaster, Messrs. E. H. Naylor and C E Proctor. An efficient orchestra Ktmportod. Mr. J. Allen was a( the piano. Tho chorus and orchestra x' nil times responded to the calls of the conductor, Mr. Proctor. Tho performance will bo repeated at St. Hilda’s Hall, Island Bay, next Wednesday.
