On the concluding day of the Vietoria Racing Club National meeting, the Trial Burdies was won bv the aged gelding Bardol, who is owned bv the ex-WelliTigton sportsman Mr. W. Riordan. Bardol was ridden by H. Cairns, and ho won by a head after a very hard race.

A Wellington sportsman has recently been negotiating for the purchase of the aged gelding Penury Rose, who has been showing fair form over fences this Beason.

W. Rayner stated at Trentham that Llstowcl had wintered very well, and ■would make his first appearance as a fnur-year-old in the JEclipse Stakes at Wanganui in September. Rayner is very sanguine that Iristowel will show tnat tho Absurds can stay with the best in the land. Ho pointed out that prior to Lirtowele’s race in the St. Leger at Trentham he had only been given sprint work, ajid was to have htnrtdd in the short race, but when the field dwindled down Mr. G. M. Currie decided to run the chestnut in the long-distance event. Mr. O. 8. Davis at Woodville. Forest Gold, vzho went amiss while at Trentham. has been returned home, and will be given a spell. Local followers of the sport do not expect that Omahu will be asked to race in the Grand National Steeplechase. On his form at Trentham he could have no chance with Coalition. H. S. Crawford has accepted the position nf private trainer to Mr. W. h. Bidwill, and will take un hi a new duties at the end of this monthj
