SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH KEEN COMPETITION FOR HALFBRED Br Telegraph—Press Assooiatlon. Christchurch, July 21. At the sixth local wool sale to-day 9060 bales were offered. The wool was not in such good condition as usual, part of it being seedy, and one section comprising the tail-end of clips. There was little demand for merino wool, and values were down to tho extent of Id. to IJd. Three-quartcrhred showed the same decline, and crossbred a reduction of Id. Halfbred was keenl ycompeted for by tho Continent and America, and values were a shade firmer. Local mills operated sparingly. Pieces and bellies were distinctly firmer, and were lid. above Juno values. Between 75 and 80 per cent, of the catalogue was sold. The range of prices was as follows:— d. d.
BETTER PRICES FOR CROSSBREDS AT' LONDON SALES. (Rec. July 21, 10.5 p.m.) London, July 20. At the free wool sale a small selection of merinos sold at recent rates. A large and good selection of crossbreds evoked brisker bidding for the Home trade and tho Continent. Prices wore distinctly harder, especially for medium to low qualities.
