Bricks and mortar are flying within the Town Hall as a result of the recent exodus of the city engineer and his staff to another building in Mercer Street. The suite of offices lately 'in the occupation of that department has been occupied, after much alteration, by the treasurer’s department. The city treasurer (Mr. C. Collins) now occupies the room formerly used by Mr. Morice (assistant engineer), "accounts, wages, and cemetery records” are attended to in the room lately occupied by the city engineer, and the latter’s public office 'is the new rates office, whore property owners with money are given n warm welcome. At the present time there is much wall-smashing going on in the offices lately in the occupation of the city treasurer, in order to adapt them to tho requirements of the city’ solicitor and his staff, who are now away up under the tower. The annual report of the New Zealand Forestry League expresses the satisfaction of members at the progress of the State Forest Service, particularly the fact, that tho operations of the Department are made with the cordial co-operation of the sawmilling industry, "which is an indication that the Department is proceeding on sound business principles, it hopes that, when (lie necessary h'gislotion is placed on the Statute Boek (lie rate of progress will be accelerated.
