WIFE-BEATER SENT TO PRISON
TRUSSED UP BY NEIGHBOURS. Thomas Henry Moody, against whom a prohibition order was issued some time ago, managed to get very drunk on Monday afternoon -and returned to his home at'island Bay soon after 8 p.m. Immediately he entered the house he caught his wife by the throat, pushed her across a chair, and said ho would murder her. A young woman staying with Airs. Moody immediately left to telephone the police. In the meanwhile the neighbours came in at the wife’s entreaties and Moody had to' be trussed up before pence was restored. Constable Redican then put in an appearance, and Moody at Iris own request was untied. Immediately the ropes and straps were taken off Moody again attacked his wife, and he was roped up a second time. It appeared that Mrs. Moody had applied- to the Court for soparation and , maintenance orders, the hearing of which should be taken on Monday mat. Moody appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. I'. K. Hunt, S.M., charged with assaulting his wife. He was also charged with committing a breach of his prohibition order. The Magistrate said that the people did not want wife-beaters in the community. and ho sentenced Moody to seven days’ imprisonment for assaulting his wife. On the charge of committing a breach of his prohibition order, he was fined. 10s. Moody’s police record was rather unfavourable.
