The .Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) has returned to Wellington, after visiting Otago and Canterbury.
Lieut.-Colonel Sir Edward Grigg, who visited New Zealand and Australia ns advisory secretary to the Prince of Wales last year, has been appointed secretary to the Primo Minister of England (Mr Lloyd George). Mr. B. J. Canary, and Cat Club Mr. Finnegan is also proniinentiv identified with athletic sports, being ” especially well known m bowling circles.
The death occurred on Monday night of Mr. Reginald Dawson, only son oi Captain Dawson, harbourmaster, • of Caroline Street. The deceased who was onlv 23 years of age, was educated in Wellington, and as a youth shoved his love of the sea by making three voyages ns a memter of the hospital ship Maheno during the war. a vessel in which be had become fourth officer, when ho came ashore through ill-health m January last vearr His death is deeply lamented bv all nho knew him. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning.
Mr. Richard Wedderspomi left by the Tahiti on a business trip io Australia. Mt.’ Henry Humphries, an old resident of Greytown, died on Monday evening nt his residence, Humphries Street. Ho was Cl vears of age, and loaves a 81111 largo adult family. The late Mt. Humphries with a number of other Greytown voting men, went to the Kimberley gold diggings some 30 years ago. Deceased took part in public matters, and ha, ■been on the Borough Council, Tom lands Trust, and was chairman of the Waiohine River Board at the time of his death.
Tho funeral of the late JJcutrnnvt Wade took place on Monday. Ihe South African Veterans’ Association was trepresented by Sir Al f red Kobin. Alessre A S. Houston, J. J. Clark, AV. A. Gemmell. and J- L. Haseldcn. Among others who attended to honour tl e memory of the late soldier were ship the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright), the Town Clerk, and Colonel Mitchel .
