The usual fortnightly sales of sheepskins, hides, and tallow were held last week. Brokers’ report, are given below. The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd-, reports." The sale was held to a full attendance of buyers. Compared with previous sale held on July 1, sheepskins were leaver all round by Id. per lb. Salted and green sheepskins were lower by 3d. to 6d. each. Heavy ox hides were lower by Id. per lb* and medium and light cow by J-d. per lb. Calfskins were easier. Tallow was in demand, and good sales were made.”

Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., report: —'“Our catalogue consisted ■of 1200 sheepskins and 550 hides, which we submitted to a good attendance of buyers. With the recent decline in wool values, a lower range of values for sheepskins was anticipated, and these declined by Id. per lb. for dry, and up to 6d. per skin in wet skins. Hides also showed a decline in values with the exception of heavy ox and calfskins, which maintained late values. Medium and light ox were fully Id. to lid. lower. Cow hides were from Id. to ijd. lower except for extra heavy weights. Lightweight yearlings sold fairly well up to last sale's prices, but heavy-weight yearlings declined about Id. per lb.” Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report:—"We subniittta a fair catalogue of all descriptions to an average attendance of exporters, fellmongers, and tanners. The bidding was hot keen at any time (with the exception of good lots;, demand being slack Und prices down Dry skins declined in value from 3d. to Id. per lb., salteds being a shade easier. In sympathy with the Australian market, hides were lower- by fully Id. per lb. Heavy-weight ox, of good substance, sold up to 13d. per lb. Tallow was in better demand.”

Messrs. Levin and Company, Ltd., report: —"An average offering was submitted, and, although there was a fair attendance of buyers, biddings, for the majority of lots, were restricted. Sales of sheepskins were possible only at an all-round decline on prices ruling at the sale held, a fortnight ago.. Demands for hides were very limited, and in consequence heavies were difficult to quit at late rates, whilst medium and lights declined fully Id. to Jd. per lb. Kip and yearling were about on a par with last sale prices, whilst good calf were in. demand at late rates. The tallow market was quiet. There was very little inquiry, and business wa» possible only at very low rales.” Messrs. Abraham and Williams. Ltd., and Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—“We offered a good selection. Buyers were present in the usual numbers, but competition was not so keen as in the previous sale. Hides were easier, in sympathy with the Melbourne market, and owing to the local fellmongers displaying little interest, extra heavies showed a decline of about 3d. per lb. Heavies were from id. to jd. lower. Sheepskins were selling in buyers’ favour. Tallow was firm, and showed an advance on last sale." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports:—"We submitted full-sized catalogues to a full bench of buyers. Competition was good,

but prices in sympathy with cabled reports showed a drop of Id. to |d. per lb., in dry, sound skins, and about 6d. each in salted lines. Hides also were lower, except for heavies. There was a fair inquiry for tallow at a slight advance on last rates,”
