The death of Lieutenant Wade. a. South African veteran and a member of the Main Body, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, occurred on Friday at Trantham. The body will be interred at Karori Cemetery to-day at 2.45 p.m. Mr. J. I’. Luke, of Wellington, son of Sir John Luke, M.P., returned to the Dominion by the Paparon. last week. Mr. Luke saw service in Franco during tho war, and subsequently practised as a mechanical and electrical engineer in Britain. Sir John Luko was in Auckland to meet his son.

Mr. B. J. Finnegan, supervisor of parcels at the Christchurch Post Office, hns been appointed superintendent of mails at Wellington. He is well known as a pigeon fancier, and at present is president of the Christchurch Pigeon Club nnd of the Canterbury Homing Pigeon Club. Ho was one of the original members of the Brighton Surf Club, and has been prominently associated with bowling. Ho is also connected with tho Merivnle Rugby Football Club. Mr. F. 11. Brittain inspector of stock at Auckland, has retired from tho Department of Agriculture after a service of 30 years. At a gathering of officers of the Department, Mr. J. Lyons, district superintendent, on behalf of the subscribers, presented Mr. Brittain with a gold albert and peudant, and Mrs, Brittain with a manicure set
