HUTT TECHNICAL SCHOOL

IJnther over three years ago the trustees of the Riddiforri Estate presented to the Education Board a site of nearly H acres, with frontage io Woburn Road, Lower Hutt, for the purpose of a technical school. Representations as to the need of this institution were made first to the Riddiford Trustees by Messrs. Rishworth and Baldwin, then chairmen respectively of tho Hutt District High School and Eastern Hutt School Committees Through the efforts of these gentlemen and of others interested, the sum of over £3OO to further the project was furnished by residents of the Hutt. Subsidies on these gifts of land and money amounted to £5.50, and a grant was authorised by the Government for erection of a technical school on tho above site. Owing to tho high prices, it ms for some time impossible to get a } cn ' ,e r at- a. prico which could accepted, and on recently inviting tenders, it was found that tho difference between wood and brick was so small compared to the value of the more permanent that on representation by the Ivbicatio Board and the Technical Commit tee represented by Mr. Rishworth the GoveJnnmnt agreed to find the difference bct woed wood and brick, and the. board has thus been enabled to accept the tender of Mr .1.
