Mr. J. A. Hulton, at one time jx>stmaster at Wellington, supplies some further information in regard to the first telegraph lines, mention of which was recently made in the Dominion. The second line to be opened, according to Mr. Hulton, was not the Dunedin-Inver-cargill one, but the line between Bluff and Invercargill. The materials for this lino were landed nt Bluff, and the line was constructed from that end. It was erected by the Provincial Government, and Mr. Hulton, assisted by the late Mr. J. W. Mason, at tho time officer in charge at Christchurch, unpacked the instruments on their arrival. The line was opened on February 12, 1861.
