* ■ FIGURES FOR PAST WEEK. During the week ended yesterday 44 cases of infectious diseases were notified within the AVellington health district, compared with 48 for the previous week. The number reported during the week still previous was 55. Only six eases of diphtheria are reported for last week, as against 13 for the previous week. The number of scarlet fever cases has increased from 6 to 15. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, July 11. The Mayor has received a letter from the Hon. C. J. Parr in reply to a suggestion made by a recent deputation that a commission of experts be appointed to investigate the cause of diphthemi. The Minister’s opinion is that the suggestion is at present not possible of fulfilment. He proposes to communicate with the Medical Research Council and the Rockefeller Foundation, and ascertain whether they purpose in the near future undertaking any research into the causation of diphtheria, and offering to collaborate by supplying any information in his power. In the meantime the Department has been instructed to give special attention to Christchurch and fluliurbs, and endeavour by all possible means to ascertain the causes of the present outbreak. _____
